Public Service Policy Consultations reaches the Outer Islands

Public Service Act

The Public Service (Amendment) Bill 2010 was gazetted and effective from 27 September, 2010. Further reviews were undertaken which resulted in Cabinet approving the following on 8 December, 2010:

1. Public Service (Disciplinary Procedures) (Amendment) Regulations, 2010;
2. Public Service (Grievance and Dispute Procedures) (Amendment) Regulations, 2010;
3. Code of Ethics and Conduct for the Public Service, 2010;
4. Public Service Policy 2010;

The Public Service Policy Instructions, 2010 was approved by the Public Service Commission on 17 January, 2011 and became effective on the same date.

 

The above legislations, regulations, policies and instructions were published in the form of booklets and a bookmark (for the Code of Ethics and Conduct 2010) and has been distributed to all Government Departments with the exception of public servants in Niuafo'ou and Niuatoputapu.

During monthly Policy Consultations with line Ministries, comments/issues have been raised by public servants on possible policy changes. The comments/issues raised are tabled for the consideration of the Public Service Commission during the annual review of the Public Service Policy Instructions, 2010.

The following have been amended/inserted in the Public Service Policy Instructions, 2010;islands article

Since early 2011, Policy Consultations have been conducted for all line Ministries of the Public Service. This includes consultations to the outer islands (Vava'u, Ha'apai and 'Eua).

Policy consultations are ongoing. In addition to the Policy Consultations, the PSC Office further conducted Induction Trainings for new recruitments to the Public Service. This commenced in late 2010 and included all new appointments since 2004. The PSC Office has updated its Induction Trainings for new recruitments up until June, 2012. It is to be conducted on a quarterly basis.
